I am a big softy.
Something happened to my hormones when I gave birth to my daughters, I'm sure of it.
I now cry at everything - Eastenders, soppy adverts (and trust me, America majors in soppy tv adverts, stories about people triumphing over adversity, when my kids do something lovely etc...you get the picture).
And my family rib me merciless about it. Rotters.
In my local cinemas (movie theaters to you Americans) they play videos and songs as well as adverts before the trailers. Just recently they've been playing this video for Wheels by Jamie Cullum quite a bit. It's beautiful and makes me tear up every time :)
Isn't it lovely?
I believe the unicyclists are from the Twin Cities Unicycle Club in Minnesota. I love the great span of ages and the fact that occasionally you see them smirk on a fly past.
I particularly like the bit just after 1.38 mins in when they zoom past Jamie, and then at 1.44 when the little girl cycles past and a helpful hand grabs out for her to help her keep up.
The reason I thought about sharing my favourite 'joyful videos that make me tear up' was because of this one my friend @mydwynter shared with me today via twitter:
Just when you think OK Go can't possibly make another super-amazing visually-enthralling video they do it again! (And if you've been on another planet and haven't seen their videos before, you need to check out This Too Shall Pass (Rube Goldberg Machine), A Million Ways (the video that started a million imitations at wedding do's), Here It Goes Again (the treadmill one)...actually you should check out all of their videos, there's too many good ones to name).
I'm sure I read somewhere that they did 124 takes for this White Knuckles one and about 30 of these were good throughout but that they went with take 72....but I can't find where I read that now. I really should keep my notebook on me when I'm surfing the internet.
(Btw if you liked that, you'll probably love this too - Jack the terrier not really getting escalators).
Before White Knuckles became my favourite OK Go video, this was the one that brought the most joyful tears to my eyes: This Too Shall Pass (the Marching Band one):
You've probably guessed by now that the moment I start tearing up is 2.03 :)
'This too shall pass' has long been on my 'what shall I get for my next tattoo?' list.
But my all time favourite 'video-that's-sure-to-make-me-cry-because-it's-so-lovely' has to be one that took 14 months to make, visiting 42 countries and featuring a cast of thousands...watch out for 0.52 seconds in, where I usually start weeping :)
There are so many wonderful parts to this 'Where the Hell is Matt? 2008' video, if you haven't seen it before I urge you to watch it several times, so many happy souls. If you want to know the story behind his adventures have a look at his website and journal. And check out all of his dancing videos including the one where he was invited to South Africa before the World Cup this summer to learn the diski dance.
They make me happy.
So naturally, I cry :)
