I don't do pink.
That's a lie:
Do you love the glasses? And the curly perm? Hey, it was 1988. Pink satin, lovely. It used to crease so badly. Look how thrilled I am to be having my photo taken!
And then there was...
This is 1986 or possibly 1987 because I was growing out the spiky-hair-on-top-mullet-at-the-back-that-could-be-tied-up-in-a-big-pastel-pink-chiffon-bow haircut ready for the curly perm in 1988. Yeah I know, but you can stop laughing now.
Classic looking away from the camera and down at the floor there.
I loved those pink heels. I thought they were so classy. They were from Faith in the Eldon Square Shopping Centre in Newcastle. So gorgeous.
Oh yeah, there was this too...
This is 1990 and I'm actually smiling for the camera there. We'd be told to wear black skirts and white blouses, but I'd decided this was my day so I'd wear what i wanted...so I chose a pink flowery dress but this was very rebellious for me in those days.
Ok, ok, fair cop - so I did used to do pink.
A lot.
In fact there was a period from about 1985 to 1990 were I wore almost nothing but pastels and pink.
And just like me playing that Rock Me Amadeus 12" one too many times, I think I killed it for me forever. Which would be fine, except that I've got to wear pink again. Soon.
You know I told you the other day that I was going to BurlyCon, well on the Saturday evening there's going to be a Pink Party. And we have to wear pink. And looking in my closet, except for a pair of cerise pyjamas...nope, there's no pink. Aaargh.
So the sewing machine is going to have to come to the rescue again and serve up a Pretty in Pink moment:
(darn I was trying to find a clip of when Iona gives Andie that GORGEOUS 50's pink and white polka dot dress and Andie brutally carves it up into the Pretty in Pink dress...but I couldn't find one)
Btw who's with me in thinking:
- Andie should have ended up with Duckie?
- She should have worn Iona's pink and white polka dot prom dress as it was, and not butchered it?
- That wig Andrew McCarthy is wearing in the re-shot final scenes (because he'd shaved his head and lost weight for a play he was now doing) is really bad?
...it's still one of my top ten movies of all time though.
So it's time to put on some Otis, some Psychedelic Furs and some New Order and get sewing, well after a trip to the charity shops for some fabric. I shall keep you posted...
