The plan had been that February would be my prep month for March's Bowie Sew Along and that I might redecorate the dining room or at the very least the front door.
But Twitter is a dangerous thing. And following fellow sewists on Twitter is even more dangerous. Because if you do, you hear them talking about new sew alongs.....and they sound fun.....and you want to be part of the fun.....you don't want to be left out.
So.....(can't talk long, need to get some serious sewing done).....I'm currently plotting and cutting for the following 3 Sew Alongs:
Scruffy Badger Time's Polka Dot Frock Fest
Using the New Look 6000 pattern (also known here in Arizona at least as New Look 0110), and polka dot or dotty fabric...as you can see mine's going to be a little psychedelic....it's a nice baby cord though. I like it. It's colourful.
The dress is going to be a serious challenge though as the pattern only goes up to a size 16 and I'm a 20-22-24 (classic Christmas tree shape). Some serious grading and perhaps even....gulp.....a muslin, is going to be needed.
This sew along lasts all of February.
More details on Scruffy Badger Time's blog.
Lucky Lucille's Sew For Victory 1940's Sew Along
Far right is what I made for the Sew Weekly 1940's challenge last year.
Tons of lovely information over on Rochelle's Lucky Lucille blog about her Sew For Victory 1940s sew along. Not sure what I'm doing yet, but have those middle 2 patterns - Butterick 5417 and Simplicity 4044 if all else fails. Though after seeing Lee's and Loran's Rosie the Riveter inspired creations last year, I have to confess I'm hankering for my own.
It would be really nice if I could upcycle something in the Make Do and Mend spirit too....a trip to Goodwill and my other favourite charity shops might be in order.
Deadline for this sew along is March 29th....so it will coincide with the Bowie sew along here.
More info. at Lucky Lucille.
Julia Bobbin's Mad Men Sew Along 2
The 2 frocks on the far right are what I made for the Sew Weekly Mad Men challenge and the 1960s challenge last year.
On the far left are 2 sheets I picked up from Goodwill that I thought both looked very Betty Draper. Though I can't decide whether to make a shift dress or shirt dress.....I've also got in my patterns an original 1960s pattern that could be turned into Megan's Zou Bisou Bisou dress...ish....though I did try to source suitable pleated black chiffon last year with success.
Deadline for this is April 19th. (New season of Mad Men starts April 7th in the USA.....how many of our photoshoots are going to be at Mad Men opening night parties I wonder).
Tons more info. and inspiration from Julia and last year's Mad Men sew along on her blog here.
I do like stretching myself don't I?
