How we all doing? Just 6 days to go on the Bowie Sew Along (still plenty of time to join in the fun!) and some fab things in the pipeline. To inspire you though, here's a few more Bowie Sew Along sightings.
First up are some makes from Danielle, who I must apologise to because she sent me these ages ago and I just got waylaid. Danielle's email thrilled me, she says:
My name is Danielle and I live in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. I've been following the Sew Weekly for some time and that must have been where I heard about your Bowie Sew Along.
I absolutely adore David Bowie and so I figured I just couldn't sit on the sidelines anymore.
I am lucky enough to have an amazing friend and seamstress to sew with, and on our last sewing day we decided to 'go Bowie'.
With her 1 year old daughter and my 7 month old son in the mix, it was a very interesting day and we barely managed to finish our projects. But, I would like to present my Aladdin Sane tee:
I removed the neck and hemmed edges from the t-shirt and lined the underside in red and blue fabric. I had intended to slash the black tee to reveal the lighting bolt behind, but it just didn't look right, so the design became a reverse appliqué instead.
I'm so happy with how it turned out! And just to prove how much of a Bowie fan I really am, I'm including a photo of my Jareth mask which I made back in 2007...
...and also a recent pic of my son sporting his mini Aladdin Sane tee.
(Oh, and there was the year that the whole family went as iterations of Bowie, including the dog!) More Bowie ideas are brewing, but we'll see if I get around to them in time.
Thank you SO MUCH for these contributions Danielle! I love that the Bowie Sew Along has prompted you to try something new (and I LOVE how you've hacked that t-shirt!), and there was me thinking Toni's daughter in her Bowie inspired leotard on So Let It Be Written, Sew Let it Be Done would be our youngest model! I love that we're starting Bowie love young. Though I have to say, I want to see photos of the whole family as Bowie.....including the dog, that sounds superb!
Danielle doesn't have a blog or any link YET, so perhaps you'd like to encourage her share more of her lovely makes in the future in the comments below....
I had a bit of a muck about with Anne's original on Pic Monkey, what do you think?
Head over to her blog post at Pretty Grievances for more lovely pics and details of the dress make, a fab story of how she first discovered Bowie and how her rebellious attempts have been quoshed by her mother saying this is a dress she's going to like.....so misunderstood, poor thing.
OK, that's it for finished objects for today.....but I know there are lots more lovelies being made around the world.....but I'm off for now, about to watch the first episode of the Great British Sewing Bee featuring Tillly of Tilly and the Buttons.
More very soon.....Sew on!
