Me Made May '12 - Day 9

Date: Wednesday 9th May 2012 (sort of a cheat this, I forgot to take pic yesterday, so had to put it all on again today....yesterday I didn't have added paint on my feet, legs, hands and face from teaching an art lesson).

Weather: Sun, clouds 91F/33C AND IT RAINED! :)

Me Made Stuff worn: Refashioned dress from JCPenney sales in 2010...it was a size 28 so I had to chop and refit it down to my 20/22. Unfortunately I don't have any before pics. Also me made hair flower again made from wired red glitter ribbon and green felt. And personalised bag.....

Non Me Made Stuff worn: Bangles from Target again (2012) not quite sure why I'm sporting the German flag colours....red mules I bought on ebay years and years ago. And my new Iris Apfel/Harry Potter sunglasses.....which not being prescription I can't see a blinking thing through them....but I love them (from Target, where else).

Sew Weekly Challenge this week: Mix It Up: using at least 2 different prints in an outfit.

What I'm making: Another maxi dress, bodice is now made but still undecided about whether to make the skirt patchworky, or be inspired by Mena's post on mixing prints on Sew Weekly.

Things To Do Today (other than sewing): Had Melchett off school today, her foot was too painful....doctors tomorrow.

Song I office-wheely-chair-danced and sang along to too loudly to during day: This Charming Man - The Smiths (BEST SONG EVER WRITTEN, EVER, that first 4 seconds of Johnny Marr's twangy guitar transport me back to summer 1984, instantly relaxing me and the lyrics are perfection).

TV I watched during the day: Britain's Got Talent Live Semifinals including the fabulous Beatrix Von Bourbon.

Thoughts about outfit after wearing for the day: This was the first short, fitted dress I converted or made....it's taken me a long time to convince myself I can wear it....but I love the boldness of the pattern.

Me Made May '12 - Day 8

Date: Tuesday 8th May 2012

Weather: Sun and clouds 91F/33C

Me Made Stuff worn: Maxi dress made from sheets from Goodwill thrift store/charity shop. Lots more pics and info. here.

Non Me Made Stuff worn: Silver bangle had for decades, 2 mismatched earrings that have lost their partners so now I wear as a 'pair', cowgirl boots and cowboy hat from Target (do you get the feeling I shop there a lot?), bottletop burlesque necklace by MinxTotty.

 

Sew Weekly Challenge this week: Mix It Up: using at least 2 different prints in an outfit.

Things To Do Today (other than sewing): Air con bloke is coming to service our systems, emergency dash to Goth Child's school because she forgot her dinner money, and picking up a Melchett in pain after 2 visits to the school nurse's office (despite the crutches she's still in pain, going to the doctors on Thursday).

TV I watched during the day: Britain's Got Talent Live Semifinals.

Thoughts about outfit after wearing for the day: Since the original making of this dress, I've scavenged the back zip out of it for another dress and taken in the bodice so it fits better. I love the ease of this dress now it's getting hot and wear it lots.

Me Made May '12 - Day 7

Date: Monday 7th May 2012

Weather: Sunny 93F/34C

Me Made Stuff worn: Dr Seuss skirt refashioned from a pair of trousers from Goodwill thrift store/charity shop. Lots more pics and info. (and a whole blog post in Seussical rhyme and wearing a Lorax moustache) here.

Non Me Made Stuff worn: Various bangles from Target, shoes by Soda from Famous Footwear.....this is possibly my slobbiest look so far for Me Made May.

Sew Weekly Challenge this week: Mix It Up: using at least 2 different prints in an outfit.

What I'm making: Another maxi dress, made from various bits of Dr Seuss quilting fabrics I have left over in my stash....this could be fun.....or a complete nightmare.

Things To Do Today (other than sewing): Tidying Goth Child's room, lots of washing and dealing with an overwrought teenager going through normal teenager things....but doing the normal thing of thinking she's the first person to ever have to face them, and giving lots of hugs.

Song I sang along too loud to during day: Tonight We Are Young - Fun. featuring Janelle Monáe

TV I watched during the day: a serious EastEnders marathon, just one episode behind now....worried about Jean and waiting for Ben and Michael to get a come uppance.

Thoughts about outfit after wearing for the day: I've somehow managed to lose weight since making this skirt (which is a problem for a few of my skirts) so need to wear it with a belt next time. But this is possibly the me made thing I've worn the most since making.

Me Made May '12 - Day 6

(OK, the clever ones amongst you will have worked out we celebrated Cinco De Mayo a day late.... Mr D was out drumming on Saturday night)

Date: Sunday 6th May 2012

Weather: Sunny 93F/34C

Me Made Stuff worn: Dress made for Sew Weekly's Mad Men challenge.....but I thought the red, white and green of the dress was appropriate as it matches the Mexican flag. Lots more pics and info. about the make here. Me Refashioned Boots too, originally found on ebay and sequinned, painted and glitter-glued to within an inch of their lives.

Non Me Made Stuff worn: Various bangles from Target and Accessorize over the years, and a large sombrero from Party City bought last year for our first annual family Cinco De Mayo celebration.

What I'm making: Another maxi dress, made from various bits of Dr Seuss quilting fabrics I have left over in my stash....this could be fun.....or a complete nightmare.

Things To Do Today (other than sewing): Actually it's was sewing free day today so.... I tidyed Melchett's room....it got seriously out of hand whilst she's been on her crutches and she needed a little help. Did some gardening, some of the bushes needed cutting back. And celebrated Cinco De Mayo (do you get the feeling our family needs any excuse for a party?)

Song I danced to during day before being shouted at by Goth Child: El Zopilote Mojado - Mariachi Aguila Real (you NEED this on your ipod, the strings are so beautifully out of tune it's fabulous)

TV I watched during the day: not much today, we were too bust...but did squeeze in a Project Runway (season 4) with Melchett.

Thoughts about outfit after wearing for the day: this is one of the early dresses I made before I really started to understand my differing sizes....so the bodice is way too big. One day I might try to fix this...possibly.

Me Made May '12 - Day 5

Date: Saturday 5th May 2012 - HAPPY CINCO DE MAYO!

Weather: Sunny 97F/36C

Me Made Stuff worn: Dress made for upcoming week's Sew Weekly Old Family Photo challenge.....not to be revealed until sometime after May 7th, then I'll show you it.

Non Me Made Stuff worn: Large metal and enamel yellow hoop earrings from Target (2012), sequinned and beaded slides by White Mountain from TJMaxx (2012).

Sew Weekly Challenge this week: Inspired by an old family photo, but not exactly one of MY family....

What I'm making: I'm wearing, look, I've given you enough clues all week....you'll just have to be patient :p

Things To Do Today (other than sewing): Tidying out the understairs cupboard, going to see The Avengers (woo hoo).

Song I danced in a shop to during day before being shouted at by Goth Child: Focus - Sylvia

TV I watched during the day: The Voice UK and a backlog of old episodes of Project Runway with Melchett and Goth Child (can you tell Mr D is out for the day?)
